Rene,

I found your article about Generation X interesting. Do you have more I could read about X or Y Generations? Even if you only have your research such as the Packaged Facts report for 2008 about Bundle Babies(?) I would appreciate it.

I hope you are well.

After two associate's degrees, I'm still in search of that closure, and it will likely be a couple of more years before I find it. Having to singly finance college tuition for my daughter in the next 6 years (including doctorate program) will likely suck all of my finances and leave me broke enough to not even be able to afford text books. It's been 17.5 years since I started way back when.

The way I see it, it's not how long you took to do it, its the fact that you did. I believe that will speak strong volumes about your tenacity than anything. Its much harder to pursue higher education later in life than right away, and its so easy to quit without finishing.

Congratulations on a fine accomplishment. I won't be able to make the party because we'll be at the cabin (having a graduation ceremony/party of my own), but I am definitely very proud of you.

Congratulations! My road to graduation was 13 years. I like to say that it took me that long because of all the real-life "internships" that needed to be completed along the way :)

I wonder then what obligation it is if it is the recruiting company who says it is a "Contract-to-Hire?" Does it release the actual company from any obligation? There is a whole lot of promising that is going around that isn't being fulfilled that's for sure.

A company has to be careful when offering "contract-to-hire" positions which are not truly contract-to-hire. The main issue is that a company offers you something that is not true, there is a legal obligation to that "offer". Although in this situation, they could just say they weren't going to hire you - saying it was never supposed to be contract-to-hire is setting the potential applicant to expect something that will not be delivered.

Yeah...contracting sucks. i have been doing contracts for the past 4 years now and I absolutely hate it. My last one was a 1099...i will never do that again. With 1099, you are screwed after the contract ends because now you have no unemployment benefits to hold you over till the next contract. Normally this wouldn't be much of an issue, but with the current economy, they could be longer than normal. I can't even count the number of times I was told it was a contract to hire that turned out to not have the hire part attached. Employers have also lost their professionalism and integrity. While they will get pissy if you don;t give them 2 weeks notice, they have no problem telling you on Friday at 4:30 pm that you contract isn't getting renewed. Real nice. This is thanks i get for busting my backside to get you a good product so you can make a ton of money off of my work. I have had enough of this myself. I am tired of being mistreated and abused by companies.

You have worked long and hard to complete your schooling, but have also been able to apply your knowledge in the computer field and have self-taught yourself in some areas, to attain goals with each position you've worked in. You are self-motivated and have attained goals which you have set up for yourself. Completing your college education was one of the major goals.....and that is absolutely awesome.
Continue to maintain your standards, and you will go far in your profession.
I am very proud of you, and your accomplishments.
My love to you always.......Mom.
